“You don’t have to know exactly what to say or where to begin. We’ll start with whatever feels most present and let the conversation unfold naturally, together.”
Approach to Therapy:
Sometimes life can look fine on the outside while feeling very different on the inside. You may know that something has been difficult for a while, even if you are not sure how to explain it yet. You don't have to know exactly what to say or where to begin. We'll start with whatever feels most present and let the conversation unfold naturally, together. I want to understand you in the context of your relationships, culture, and the experiences that have shaped your life. As we begin to make sense of your story together, you may also begin to understand yourself with a little more clarity and compassion.
My hope is that therapy becomes a place where you feel less alone with what you are carrying, and a little more connected—to yourself and to the people who matter most.
Clinical Interests:
My clinical interests center around relationships and the ways they shape how we see ourselves and connect with others. I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families navigating relationship challenges, family-of-origin concerns, life transitions, and cross-cultural experiences.
I have a particular interest in supporting people who have learned to carry life's challenges quietly and find it difficult to let others see what they are going through. Many struggle with self-doubt, perfectionism, or an inner belief that they should be able to handle things on their own, even when they are carrying more than most people realize.
Many of the men I work with describe wondering how they will be seen if they express fear, sadness, uncertainty, or the need for support. Together, we create space to explore those experiences with curiosity and compassion, helping them feel less alone with what they have been carrying and more able to bring their authentic selves into the relationships that matter most.
I also enjoy working with Asian, immigrant, international, and multicultural clients as they navigate family expectations, identity, intergenerational relationships, and the experience of living between cultures.
Whether I am working with an individual, a couple, or a family, my hope is that clients leave with a greater understanding of themselves, their relationships, and new possibilities for moving forward.
Education and Training:
I earned my Bachelor of Science in Biology from Syracuse University and my Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northwestern University.
My clinical approach is grounded in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Integrative Systemic Theory (IST), and trauma-informed care. I am currently pursuing advanced training in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and completing Levels 1 and 2 of Gottman Method Couples Therapy.
In addition to my clinical training, I have a background in Educational Kinesiology (Brain Gym®), which has deepened my appreciation for the connection between the mind, body, and learning.
I provide therapy in both English and Mandarin Chinese.
3 Things I love:
Skiing, cooking, and martial arts.
Neal is supervised by Rachael Kossy, LCPC.
